Ch. 1 Practice Test

Dear Students,

Don't forget to do the practice test for HW tonight! If you have any questions, post them on the blog!!!!!

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the parents who came to last night's open house. It was a pleasure meeting each of you. I look forward to working with you to ensure your child's success in Algebra 2. With that being said.....

Your child was given a Ch. 1 Practice Test (33 questions) to do for HW tonight. It is the same test that they took yesterday. However, many of them failed the exam. I returned the answer sheets to the students today so your child should have his/her paper to show you.

In class today, I gave them a copy of my solutions that SHOW HOW to solve the problems, not just the answers. In groups of 4, they looked at my solutions and discussed each problem, line by line, until they understood HOW to solve the problem. They then looked at their papers and located their mistakes for that problem.

I collected the solutions at the end of class. I sent home a blank answer sheet, along with the Ch. 1 Practice Test, for the students to complete for HW. They should be able to complete the test in an hour and 15 minutes as they will only have an hour and 15 minutes for the Ch. 1 Retest on Friday.

I will hand out the solutions again tomorrow so that the students can grade their Ch. 1 Practice Tests. Theoretically, since it is the same exact test they took yesterday and they also reviewed for an hour and a half in class today, ALL of the test scores should improve. I will also allow them to bring the solutions home tomorrow so that they can iron out any remaining misconceptions before taking the Ch. 1 Retest on Friday.

Hopefully, everyone will do better tonight and even better on Friday. I know the students are capable of succeeding. I just need them to believe in themselves.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail me by clicking on the "e-mail me" icon on the main page of the blog.

Have a great evening!

Ms. Chan
